Talks to gain insight into the Law
We arrange for speakers to meet with local students and community members to talk about their professional life and experiences.
We can also arrange talks that are directly relevant to the VCE curriculum. The talks provide students with an invaluable insight into the Law and the world they live in
Our Law Talks are free to attend.
Classroom Law Talks
Classroom Law Talks are held at your school, in class or at a local court, and each session is tailored to meet the needs and interests of your students. Our speakers include regional circuit judges and barristers.
Eligibility
Schools are eligible for Classroom Law Talks based on speaker availability throughout the year.
Community Law Talks
Twice a year we travel to different regional locations to facilitate programs which connect the justice sector with the Victorian community to improve understanding of and access to law and legal services.
Experts from Victoria’s courts, community organisations or other legal institutions are on-site to provide an opportunity for the locals to learn about the law and the justice system in a friendly, non-intimidating, social setting. Types of events include informative presentations, casual drop-in clinics, or interactive workshops.
Eligibility
Community Law Talks are open to all members of the local region where we attend.
Regional Law Talks
Twice a year, Victoria Law Foundation travels to a different regional location to host a two-day program aimed at helping students better understand the legal system. Experts from Victoria’s courts and other legal institutions present on different topics related to the VCE Legal Studies curriculum and students have the opportunity to speak with legal professionals directly.
Eligibility
When we select a region, we invite schools from across the area to register their interest. If you’d like to know how you can get your students involved, get in touch.
Metropolitan Law Talks
Every year we run two full-day events that connect VCE Legal Studies students in Melbourne with the Victorian legal system.
VCE students from across Melbourne are invited to attend a day of presentations directly related to the Legal Studies curriculum. We arrange a variety of speakers across Victoria’s legal sector to help students link the lessons learnt in classrooms with the real world. Presenters have included Juries Victoria, the Ombudsman, VLRC and university law school professors.
We organise Law Week Law Talks and Metro Law Talks every year in May and July.
Eligibility
All VCE Legal Studies students in metropolitan Melbourne are eligible to attend Metropolitan Law Talks. Priority early registration is given to students attending disadvantaged schools as identified by the ICSEA.
Metropolitan Law Talks occur in venues around the city and these venues dictate the number of students who can attend. We can usually accommodate up to 200 students in each session.
