Understanding legal documents can be challenging even for those with good literacy skills. It is critical for all legal professionals to know how to write clear, engaging letters, fact sheets, and other materials.

We’re pleased to announce our next Plain Language Workshop will be held on 12 March 2025, online via Zoom.  A link to join will be sent out before the event.

The workshop size is limited to maximise opportunities for interaction and personalised feedback, ensuring you get the most out of your experience. Secure your spot now.

The workshop will cover:

  • What plain language is and why it matters
  • The professional writing voice and associated myths
  • Your documents as the voice of your brand
  • Adjusting your tone for different audiences and purposes
  • Word selection and sentence structure
  • How to make your point effectively
  • Planning, structuring and editing your document
  • Verbs vs nouns
  • Using the active and passive voice
  • How spelling, grammar and punctuation influence readability.

Participants are required to complete a preliminary exercise before the workshop, and will also asked to submit a sample of their professional writing.

Cost: $120

The workshop will be presented by Bob Milstein of Words & Beyond. Bob is a practising lawyer and plain language expert.
