VLF Intern alumni event launches new network
A casual get together welcomes previous Victoria Law Foundation interns from across the sector for our first Alumni Network event.

Since 2002, more than 400 law students have taken part in VLF internships and have since moved on to exciting and varied careers in the law and beyond - that’s quite a network!
Recently, we were joined by 12 intern alumni for a buzzing networking gathering at Bourke Street Green. Those who came along had completed internships in the last 10 years and have gone on to justice sector roles in Australia and overseas.
Alumni and VLF staff learnt of the different experiences of the Intern program and how it supported the trajectory of their careers. The event drew an diverse mix, with former interns now working in policy, youth and government organisations, employment law, corporate law and legal assistance.
“Interning at VLF was a great opportunity that I still reflect positively on. Working with a multidisciplinary team, touching across areas of law, policy, publications, education and grants, gave me a unique perspective in seeing how the different backgrounds of colleagues can positively work towards a shared outcome.” – Alex Hobson, Assistant Director in Policy & International Affairs, IP Australia

Discussing how our Intern program opened so many doors will inform future intern network events, including how we build connections within the network and learn from the many different pathways interns take within the justice system.
“My internship at VLF was the most productive and helpful experience I've ever had. It helped me clarify what I want to do in my career.” – Zahraa Akeel, Criminal Defense Lawyer
Interns have a special place at VLF, we value their contribution and seek to make their experience valuable. Events like our meet-up also provide the opportunity for previous interns to stay engaged with our team and work.
Stay tuned to hear more about the lives and experiences of some of our fabulous interns, and if you have taken part in the program and you can join our Alumni Network.
